On the left side we see the Ka'aba, which is a building at the center of Islam's most important mosque, "The Great Mosque of Mecca", in the Hezjazi city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Above it we see the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency written in Arabic. Below it we see the serial number and the signature of the governor of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency. Near the center we see the portrait of late King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud and below it the words Five Hundred Riyals written in Arabic. To the right we see the serial number and the date of the Royal Decree pursuant to which it was issued and the name of King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. Below that is the water mark, which has the signature of the Minister of Finance at the bottom.

In the center we see a view that features the Holy Mosque of Mecca, commonly known as al-Masjid al-Ḥarām. The mosque surrounds the Ka'aba in the city of Mecca, in the Hejazi region of Saudi Arabia. In the right bottom we see the emblem of the kingdom.
