Obverse symbol

A coat of arms in the centre surrounded by rays, a framed oval blank field on the left for the watermark and an allegorical woman sitting on the right beside the sea. Four corners of design hold the denomination in Arabic numerals and Traditional Chinese. One printed and one hand-signed signature.

Reverse symbol

An angel blowing a trumpet at the top centre and the original HSBC building in the centre. Four serial numbers on reverse. Two rectangular frames on left and right, one for the watermark and the other containing the denomination. Four extensions to the rectangular frames hold the denomination, two in Arabic numeral and two in traditional Chinese.
