Obverse symbol

A black and white frame decorated with abstract shapes with the values "500" and "CINQ CENTS". In the center, in a decorative form, the banknotes' value. In an oval on the left, a portrait of Sir John A. Macdonald, lawyer, Canadian statesman and Prime Minister of Canada from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. The note's serial number is printed in red and repeated twice. The background color of the note is gold.
